Seattle Urban Sketchers at Fisherman's Terminal

Spent today at Fisherman's Terminal (Seattle) with friends, Marty Bauer and Eileen Vanbronkhorst. We joined the Seattle Urban Sketchers group and it was an honor to meet Seattle Times Artist Gabriel Campanario and Francis Ching, Professor Emeritus (Architecture) at the U of Washington. We were treated to an unbelievably beautiful day on the water and all of the working and pleasure boats make for a seemingly unlimited supply of drawing material. The only setback might be the monster sunburn I aquired being so close to the water. Yes, I have heard of sunscreen.

Downtown Renton

While the kids were at the pool and I did this sketch in old downtown Renton. Though I think a certain amount of urban renewal is good for a city, as an artist you don't want to see all the old buildings with character disappear.

Trying out new pens for sketching
Sharpie has come out with an extra-fine felt tip that won't bleed through the paper. It's a waterproof ink which is fine if your not counting on catching some of your line with a wash for shading. I liked these pens, crisp line and nice even flow. Thumbs up.

Last Saturday was my first participation in a World Wide SketchCrawl. The Seattle group got together at Woodland Park Zoo on a beautiful, semi-warm day. The only set back might have been all these adults with children there, in fact, there were kids everywhere.....What are they doing at the zoo?
